Course Description

This course introduces students to the principles of sustainability, environmental protection, climate change, and responsible resource management while exploring how religious and ethical traditions encourage human beings to care for the natural world.

Students learn not only what climate change is, but also why environmental responsibility matters ethically and spiritually, how human activities affect ecosystems, and what individuals, communities, businesses, governments, and religious institutions can do to create more sustainable societies.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the course, students should be able to:

  1. Define sustainability, climate change, environmental degradation, and related concepts.
  2. Explain the scientific causes and consequences of climate change.
  3. Identify relationships between human activities and environmental problems.
  4. Explain religious and ethical concepts related to environmental responsibility.
  5. Analyze environmental problems from both scientific and ethical perspectives.
  6. Evaluate sustainable practices in everyday life and communities.
  7. Explain concepts such as environmental justice, intergenerational justice, and responsible consumption.
  8. Develop practical solutions to local environmental problems.
  9. Connect personal values and religious principles with environmental behavior.
  10. Design a sustainability project for a school, university, religious institution, or community.
